All right folks I'm back, try not to be too scared by the prospect okay?  Some of you may remember me from a few weeks ago when my gal Lexie let me take over for a brief time.
Well she went and did the unthinkable folks--she let me take over again!  And today I thought I'd tell you about some of the music I hear the boys in the engine rooms talking 'bout when they think I'm not around.

Favorite Song: Dear Ophelia (The Death of Tragedy)

"History" (taken from wikipedia)
In 2006, Abney Park transformed themselves from a largely Goth Industrial band into a Steampunk band. Since Steampunk is largely derivative from science fiction and fantasy literature, the band created a fictional backstory to "explain" the shake-up in membership and who they were now, and to set a "stage" for their new music. According to that story, the band's plane collided with a time-travelling dirigible called the Ophelia - said to have been created by a Dr. Leguminous Caligari (a reference to the 1920 silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) - in a freak storm. The band commandeered the vessel, deciding to become "airship pirates", and formed a new band from the "surviving" members of the "crash". Much of their music since that time has been based around this fictional backstory.

How Lexie Found Them
While doing research for an essay on Hamlet's Ophelia, google gave me 'Dear Ophelia'.  I originally believed it to be something in vein with the essay books , and .  Look at my shocked face when it turns out--hey its music!

This would be around the time I fell in love with Voltaire as well, so its not that surprising I fell for Abney Park.  I've been a devoted fan ever since (though I haven't yet made it to a concert ::sigh::)

Noni's Take
Abe, this powder monkey I knew who liked to creep around the engine rooms when he shoulda been minding the Captain's orders,  is the one who first told me about Abney Park.  His older brother had seen'em before joining up with a different crew and leaving Abe swinging in the wind.  I saw'em myself on a screen between jobs, my eyes popping from my sockets.  All I've heard were ribald shantys that have no place within hearing distance of a lady (engineering lady or not).  But 'Airship Pirates'?  'The Derelict'?  I'm all over that.

Also I may (or may not, depending on who you ask) be in love with piano gal Kristina Erickson (to the left).  She is just gorgeous and I envy the way her hands move.  I have no musical talent whatsoever, but I've always enjoyed the piano.  It takes such skill and finesse to be hitting those keys with emotion.

Do you like their stylings?  What's your favorite song?
