Most of you probably know, but registration for Book Expo America 2013 is officially live! The dates are May 30th - June 1st (May 29th is the Special Events day, for things such as BEA Bloggers). Things a little different for Bloggers this year for registration however.
As many of us guessed last year BEA has split Book Bloggers away from the 'Press' category and put us firmly in the Non-Editorial Media category. A blog post from the Steven Rosato (the Show Director) over at The BEAN (the official blog of Steven Rosato for BEA related content) offers the following insights for Bloggers wishing to attend BEA ().
- We made a number of mistakes with the blogger registration process in 2012. The new process will be simplified, clear and transparent.
- Bloggers will be able to register for BEA AND the conference for one low price.
- Any bloggers wanting to attend just BEA and not the BBC will have a discounted special rate.
- Bloggers wanting to register for a free media pass can do so, but will be subject to similar criteria as all working press*
I would however caution to say that it might be worth waiting to find out about BEA Bloggers a bit more. The Blogger Advisory Board, put in effect to basically answer the issues voiced over 2012's conference being at best entertaining (but rarely useful) for bloggers, is packed with three Bloggers I admire greatly ():
BEA Bloggers Conference Advisory Board:
not just because I fangirl over Jane and Pam is bloody awesome. The rate for both your BEA and BEA Bloggers passes is $135 early bird rate. Registration is not open for this yet, nor is very much known about the scheduling. Its held on May 29th, the day before the Exhibit Hall opens.
Until is asking for an open call for papers.
(*) So you can register for the Press Badge (which is free), but what they consider to be a qualifying Media resource is not stated (which is just smart business on their end, this way they can't be held to a sticking point). Its a gamble and since Press registration isn't open yet I can't say what to expect.

Do you have thoughts on what would make an interesting topic, or who would be an engaging speaker, in next year's BEA Bloggers Conference Program? BEA Bloggers welcomes proposals for panel moderators, panel speakers and hour-long presentation topics relevant to book blogging community for its annual Conference Program Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Jacob Javits Convention Center in NYC.So you can have a voice in the programming if you think you have something informative to say (I don't think I do, I'm better at analyzing information given to me then offering new information :shrugs: )
